very low blow by Pena in the second, Marrero takes a well-deserved breather

Pena got the better of round 2, he drove Marrero back along the ropes, crowding him and punishing him to the body

Billed as Pride & Power, super middleweight combatants Peter Manfredo and Rich Gingras showed both and then some, in a thrilling Main Event at the Lincoln, Rhode Island venue.

Manfredo's boxing skill and busy left hook were the difference in a fight that saw both men doing damage and exchanging often to the delight of the sold-out crowd. Gingras had Manfredo stunned and in serious trouble in round three but after that Manfredo upped the pressure and was never in trouble again as he broke Gingras down with hard body shots and chopping combinations.

In the seventh, Manfredo did lots of damage, scoring repeatedly with double left hooks and rights straight up the middle into Gingras' face. When the end came in the 8th as Referee Joey Lupino stepped between the fighters, Gingras staggered away, slumping back and headed to the canvas in his own corner if not for the ropes and Lupino to catch him. The official time was 1:33 of round 8.

The victory brings Manfredo's record to 40-7 (21) and Gingras' drops to 13-4-1 (8).

Machine Gun Mike Oliver looked a lot sharper tonight than he did this summer versus Billy Dib but it wasn't enough to come away with a win versus Cornelius Lock. Despite one judge's score of 78-74 in favor of Philadelphia's Cornelius Lock, the bout ended in a majority draw after the remaining ringside officials each had it 76-76. Lock did the better body punching throughout the bout and seemed to be landing the heavier shots. Oliver let his hands go in bursts, some of which may have stolen a couple close rounds, especially effective was his speedy right hook. But over the stretch this observer felt it was the stronger more consistent Lock who should have come away with the win. With the majority draw Oliver is now 26-5-1 (8) and Cornelius Lock falls to 21-6-2 (13).
