Chatman versus Gray
Results from Twin River Casino in Lincoln, RI
By Alex Pierpaoli

Khiary Gray, 154lbs, of WorcesterMA, defeated Chris Chatman, 154lbs, of ChicagoIL, with a vicious seven round knockout to return to his winning ways after a July loss to Ian Green. Chatman, pressing the action throughout the bout, presented Gray with an aggressive, pressuring opponent. Switching back and forth from orthodox to southpaw, Chatman drove Gray back to the ropes repeatedly and opened a bloody gash over Gray's left eye at the start of the seventh. Starting cautiously, Gray landed the cleaner, speedier blows as the rounds wore on and he put Chatman down in the fourth round landing a hard right with his back along the ropes. In the seventh with blood streaming from the cut over his left eye, Gray slammed a hard left-right against the face of Chris Chatman that sent him reeling back and down. Chatman started to rise only to collapse again prompting the referee to halt the bout at 1:17 of round number seven. Khiary Gray rebounds from his July defeat on ShoBox and improves to 14-1 (11) while rugged Chris Chatman falls to 14-6-1 (5).

Anthony Marsella Jr., 139lbs, of ProvidenceR.I. stopped Bardraiel Smith, 132lbs, of PhiladelphiaPA, with a right hand at :45 seconds of round number one. Marsella is now 2-0 (1) while Smith falls to 0-2.

Irvin Gonzalez, 126lbs, of WorcesterMA, overwhelmed Cido Hoff, 125lbs, of ProvidenceR.I., dropping him twice in the first, staggering him in the second and hammering away at him with rights and lefts until Ref. Joey Lupino saw enough and halted the bout at 1:59 of round number 2. Gonzalez, a speedy, hard punching youngster who switches from southpaw to orthodox improved to 4-0 (4) with the win. In defeat, Cido Hoff falls to 1-1-1.

Kendrick Ball Jr., 165lbs, of WorcesterMA, defeated Rafael Valencia, lbs, of MedfordOre. by four round unanimous decision. Ball landed the smarter, flashier punches throughout the fight while Valencia looked to smother his efforts. In the fourth Ball looked close to scoring a knockdown when he bloodied the nose of Valencia and had him absorbing punishment. At the end of four the three ringside judges all saw the bout the same at 40-36 a piece. Ball improved to 4-0-1 (3) while Valencia dropped to 3-5-1 (2).

Cristobal Marrero, 144lbs, of New LondonCT, made quick work of Bruno Dias, 146lbs, of WoburnMA, stopping him at 2:32 of round number one after a vicious body assault. Marrero improves to 2-0 (2) with the win and Dias drops to 0-2.

Jose Rivera, 168lbs, of HartfordCT got things done quickly with a first round stoppage of Ben Peak, 168lbs, of ShrewsburyMA. Rivera caught Peak with a big right that put him flat on his back where he was counted out by referee Joey Lupino. The time was 2:34 of the first. Rivera improves to 2-0 (2) while Ben Peak makes his pro debut, now 0-1.

In the first bout of the night Jonathan Figueroa, 141lbs, of HartfordCT won a lopsided unanimous decision over Isaiah Robinson, 147lbs, of DurhamN.C. Figueroa pushed the action throughout, working behind a busy stinging jab and a hard right hand. In the final half of round four he bloodied the nose of Robinson, slamming him with right hands in a neutral corner. When the decision is announced it's unanimous with all three judges seeing it 40-36 in favor of Figueroa who improved to 2-0 (1). Robinson's record dropped to 3-4 (2).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 6th, 2016) -- Undefeated Worcester, Mass., junior welterweight Jamaine Ortiz puts his perfect record on the line at Twin River Casino later this month in a four-round bout against Durham, N.C., vet Isaiah Robinson.

Fighting for the first time since mid-July, Ortiz (2-0, 2 KOs) returns to face the sturdy Robinson (3-3, 2 KOs) in one of nine fights on CES Boxing's Friday, Oct. 21st, 2016 showcase, headlined by the eight-round junior middleweight main event between fellow Worcester native Khiary Gray (13-1, 10 KOs) and Chicago's Chris Chatman (14-5-1, 5 KOs).

A decorated amateur who competed in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in Reno, Nev., Ortiz last fought July 15th when he stopped Quebec's Kimmy St-Pierre in the third round of their scheduled four-round bout.

The 20-year-old right-hander is one of five Worcester fighters on the Oct. 21st card, including Gray, who defends his Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast and International Titles just three months after suffering his first career loss in a nationally-televised bout against Ian Green.

Worcester middleweight Kendrick Ball Jr. (3-0-1, 3 KOs) aims for his fourth win in his fifth pro fight in a four-round bout against Oregon's Rafael Valencia (3-4-1, 2 KOs) and Irvin Gonzalez Jr. (3-0, 3 KOs) returns to face Providence, R.I.,

Khiary Gray returns against Chris Chatman #Boxing

Khiary Gray
Gray returns following first career defeat to defend junior middleweight titles against veteran Chatman

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 4th, 2016) -- Three months after suffering his first career loss on national television, Worcester, Mass., junior middleweight Khiary Gray returns to the scene of some of his greatest triumphs hoping to add another memorable moment to the demo reel.

Gray (13-1, 10 KOs) defends his Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast and International Titles Friday, Oct. 21st, 2016 at Twin River Casino against self-proclaimed "bad guy" Chris Chatman (14-5-1, 5 KOs), who makes his eighth Rhode Island appearance.

"I feel real good about my upcoming victory against Gray," Chatman said matter-of-factly. "I'm not sleeping on his abilities as a fighter, but I'm real confident in my training.

"He looks good, but anyone can look good against the level of competition he's opposing. I'm sure after he fights me, he'll come out better and ready to win."

"I know he said he's bringing the pain. I respect him and what he does, but this is a fight I knew was coming and I'm ready to get back to doing what I do and get back into the winners' circle," Gray countered.

"I'm coming to redeem myself. The last fight was a fluke."

The eight-round main event headlines a stacked nine-fight card that also features an all-New England six-round co-feature between unbeaten junior middleweights Ray Oliveira Jr. (5-0, 1 KO) of New Bedford, Mass., and Gerald Schifone (3-0-1, 1 KO) of Brockton, Mass., plus a four-round regional showdown between Providence featherweight Cido Hoff (1-0-1) and unbeaten Worcester slugger Irvin Gonzalez Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs).

Tickets for the Oct. 21st Chatman-Gray title bout are priced at $47.00, $67.00, $102.00 and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com,www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.
